At the June meeting, the Gainesville Area Bee Club will hold a judged Honey Show for members. To make it simple for the membership (and for the judges), there will be only three classes: a black jar class, a novice class, and an extracted honey class. Here are the specifics:
Black jar. One container (minimum 8 ounces) of extracted honey for tasting only. A black bag will be provided. Honey will be judged on taste (and smell, which is a big part of taste) only.
Novice. One 1-lb. jar of extracted honey (any color). For entrants who have never won first prize at any honey show. Honey must be shown in clear glass, 1-lb. queenline or gamber jar, with a screw top or twist-off lid. No tamper-proof seals. Honey will be judged primarily on presentation.
Extracted honey. Three 1-lb. jars of extracted honey (any color). Extracted honey must be shown in clear glass, 1-lb. queenline or gamber jars, with screw tops or twist-off lids, all being identical. No tamper-proof seals. Honey will be judged primarily on presentation.
Whether you are bringing honey for judging or just enjoying the fun and learning about the qualities and characteristics of honey, this is bound to be a very fun time. See you there!
We will also hold a special raffle for the Union County Bee Club — theraffle item is a nuc, for just $20! Only 25 tickets will be sold.
